The Goodness of God Expressed Through Conflicting Ideas
We often look at historic revivals of the past as a gauge for what God may do next. Sometimes we even try to recreate the scenario(s) in which these moves of God were birthed hoping to replicate a past glory. But when we examine the New Testament and look at the impetus of God in revival we not only see incredible words, works and testimonies in the immediate wake of visitation but we also see the culturing of prophetic gifts and spiritual manifestations…
The Bible presents a spectacular and whole portrait of God but does so in a way that can be quite confusing at first. Today, we have the Bible as a completed book, neatly bound in leather or conveniently platformed in an easy to view app form. But the Bible was written over the span of roughly 1500 hundred years by men living many centuries apart. Most of them did not know one another and many of them would have lived hundreds of miles from each another if they did. Remarkably, in spite of all of this, the Bible maintains an incredibly internal harmony.
Jesus told His disciples, “But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place.” Jesus Himself often retreated from the hustle and bustle of busy ministry to quiet Himself down and pray. “And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there.” (Matt. 14:23)
It is important as we discuss the grace of God that we have at least a basic understanding of what His grace entails. We are using two primary definitions in our study. In the first, we understand the grace of God to mean His wonderful kindness and in the second we are referring primarily to the outworking of His power which He provides to us to help us walk in obedience to all the will of God.
